Natural History Museum Vienna
The museum’s collection has been compiled over a period of 250 years and today encompasses more than 25 million objects. It invites you to discover much of the natural and cultural history of our planet. Begun by Franz Stephan von Lothringen, the husband of Maria Theresia, in 1750, it now represents one of the oldest collections in the world.
A walk through the historical building takes you from the earliest signs of life up to the breathtaking diversity of the animal world today. Particular highlights of the collection include the Venus of Willendorf, Maria Theresia’s valuable bouquet made from precious stones, and enormous skeletons of dinosaurs.
